about
Recorded straight from the mixing board onto a Maxell XLII-S cassette during a show at the original Chameleon Club in Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood by a guy who used to run FOH for Jellyfish. He charged us $11. There were only four people in the bar that night besides the Lindas and the staff. One was a record company exec who'd come to "check out the band" to see about signing us to his label. He left. Jeff Calder of the Swimming Pool Q's was in the "crowd," and during our break, we hauled in some tympani drums he had in his van (don't ask) so he could sit in with us on tympani. That left two people in the audience. At the end of this track, you can hear the soundman dejectedly explain to Ash over the monitors that Harry and Kevin's guitars are so loud onstage he has taken them completely out of the PA system, and ask if they'd be kind enough to turn down. If memory serves, they were not.
lyrics
WHAT I GET #1:
Behind the eye of The Beholder / Lives someone darker, lurks something colder
Something hideous
It was ever thus
If you let me under your skin / Will I discover the beast within?
If I get down to what you're concealing / Then I'll see something I find appealing
Something hideous
It was ever thus
Hideous
Hideous
Ugly as sin
Five fathoms down, under your heart / Something is stirring up from the dark
Rising on up to the surface above / There's something about you, something I love
Something hideous
It was ever thus
Something hideous
It was ever thus
